I’ve had many of you share how words like “given up” echo in places far beyond adoption.
In how we talk about race.
About gender.
About leadership potential.
About success.
It really reminds me of a message that I often share.
Language doesn’t just describe reality – it creates it.
In families.
In workplaces.
In how people show up.
Google’s research into high-performing teams found that psychological safety is the #1 predictor of success – and that starts with language.
If people don’t feel safe to speak up, they hold back their ideas, their creativity and their whole selves.
That’s why this matters.
Not just for the sake of being “correct” – but to be conscious.
To lead more human, inclusive teams.
So here’s a question for you:
What’s a phrase you’ve heard – or used – that made you stop and think: There’s a better way to say this?
